The Child and Adolescent Needs and Strengths (CANS) is a multi-purpose tool developed for children's services to support decision making, including level of care and service planning, to facilitate quality improvement initiatives, and to allow for the monitoring of outcomes of services. The CANS facilitates the linkage between the assessment process and the design of individualized service plans. The way the CANS works is that each item suggests different pathways for service planning.

For those who are implementing the CANS at CYFD please follow this 4 step process:

1. Email Alicia Iverson for a CANS coupon (in order to be registered to use the CANS tool).

2. Click on the website and take the trauma CANS tutorial and take the CANS test.

3. Take the ECANS Webinar for CYFD Employees to learn how to use the CANS and the Protocol.

4. After passing the CANS Tutorial, take the ECANS webinar from APEX.
